We are thrilled to announce a significant development. Taita Taveta County, located in the Republic of Kenya, and the United States of KAILASA, the Ancient Enlightened Hindu Civilizational Nation and the First Nation of Hindus, have entered into a bilateral relationship. This alliance underscores their shared values of cultural understanding, religious freedom, eradication of hunger, holistic health, education initiatives, youth leadership, sustainable living, environmental stewardship, and citizen education.
Taita-Taveta County, formerly known as Taita Taveta District, is situated approximately 360 km southeast of Nairobi and 200 km northwest of Mombasa. Serving as a port and key gateway to the United Republic of Tanzania through Taveta town, it holds strategic significance. The county’s headquarters are located in the Mwatate sub-county, one of the six counties in the Jumuiya ya Kaunti za Pwani regional economic bloc.
With a population of 340,671 individuals as per the 2019 national census, the county encompasses varying population densities, ranging from 14 persons per km² to over 117 persons per km². Its altitudes vary from 500 m above sea level to 2,300 m at Vuria Peak, the highest point in the county. Taita Hills and Saltlick Lodges Sanctuary are renowned tourist attractions within Taita Taveta.
Notably, the county boasts 48 forests on its hilltops. These forests are integral to the distinctive Eastern Arc range of forests, primarily found in eastern Tanzania, with the Taita Hills representing Kenya’s sole portion of this forest type. Taita Hills forest showcases remarkable biodiversity, with 13 plant taxa and 9 animal taxa found exclusively in this region. Moreover, 22 plant species typical of the Eastern Arc forests are present in Taita Hills. These indigenous forests provide vital clean water to both local economic activities and wildlife in the lowland areas.
This bilateral relationship between Taita Taveta County and KAILASA heralds a new chapter in cultural exchange and collaboration, fostering mutual growth and progress.
