The Kono District and Koidu City of Sierra Leone both have entered into Bilateral Relations and the United States of KAILASA, the Ancient Enlightened Civilizational Nation, First Nation of Hindus – emphasizing their similar values on cultural understanding, religious freedom and other rights, eradication of hunger, youth leadership, holistic health and education initiatives, exchanges to educate citizens, environmental stewardship and sustainable living.
Koidu City is the capital and largest city of the diamond-rich Kono District in the Eastern Province of Sierra Leone.
Koidu City is a major urban, business, commercial and diamond trade center, it is one of the most ethnically and religiously diverse cities in Sierra Leone.
Koidu city is also the hometown of Sierra Leone’s vice president Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, Sierra Leone”s First Lady Fatima Bio and former Sierra Leone”s vice president Samuel Sam-Sumana; as all three of them were born and raised in the city.
Kono District is the largest diamond producer in Sierra Leone. Other important economic activities include gold mining and agricultural production of rice, coffee and cacao.
Kono District population is religiously diverse among Muslims and Christians, though Muslims make up the majority of the population in Kono District.
