The United Ancient Indigenous Enlightened Nations (UAN) has signed a landmark Agreement of Mutual Cooperation and Establishing of Diplomatic Relations with the Batwa Kingdom (Mperwa Batwa Cultural Hub), represented by its King, His Majesty Sebasore Wilson, in the Republic of Uganda.
The Batwa (Twa) people number more than 5,000 across the Great Lakes region of East and Central Africa, spanning Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, and are recognized as among the earliest known forest-dwelling inhabitants of the region. The Mperwa Batwa Cultural Hub is one Batwa community within this wider population, led by its own King and comprising approximately 160 people.
Signed on August 30, 2026, the Agreement recognizes the historic injustice suffered by the Mperwa Batwa community, which was forcibly displaced from its ancestral forest homeland following the 1991 gazettement of the Bwindi Impenetrable and Mgahinga Gorilla National Parks, and which survives today on approximately one acre of borrowed land in Kisoro District.
Under the Agreement, UAN will bring humanitarian services and educational programs rooted in the teachings of THE SUPREME PONTIFF OF HINDUISM (SPH), BHAGAVAN NITHYANANDA PARAMASHIVAM, to the Mperwa Batwa people, who in turn gain membership in UAN.
The Mperwa Batwa Cultural Hub has also committed, under the signed Agreement, to advocating for and facilitating wider diplomatic relations between UAN and the broader Batwa (Twa) communities of Kisoro District and the Great Lakes region. Both parties have further pledged mutual support toward recognition in international forums, including the United Nations and the African Union.
This provision creates a meaningful pathway for the relationship established with the Mperwa Batwa Cultural Hub to extend to broader Batwa communities, while recognizing that such wider relationships remain a process to be facilitated rather than an outcome already secured.
This partnership stands as a living expression of UAN’s founding mission: uniting Indigenous nations in the shared work of preserving ancestral wisdom, restoring dignity, and securing self-determination for peoples too long overlooked by the world.
